Depending on which stage the patient is in, there are a variety of roles for nurses within these stages as well as various types of care that must be provided. To keep our hospital staff updated on all kinds of essential patient care, we at Sujata Birla Hospital conducted a lecture on Pre and Post-operative care, on 24th July 2022. The speaker of the lecture was Dr Ajeet Khalkar.
Sujata Birla Hospital
believes in providing its patients with the best quality care. Thus, we keep organising such lecture series for our hospital staff to keep brushing up on their knowledge and skills.
Every stage of treatment during the peri-operative period requires specialised nursing care. Nurses must comprehend the patient’s entire peri-operative experience in order to provide effective and competent care.
Peri-operative refers to the three phases of surgery.
- Preoperative stage
- Intraoperative stage
- Postoperative stage
The objective of nursing care during these phases is to give the patient supportive, evidence-based, and comprehensive care.
Throughout the peri-operative phase, there are several nursing duties, including those of the surgical ward nurse, anaesthetic nurses, circulating nurses or scout nurses, instrument or scrub nurses, and post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses.
It is best to practise for those in these roles or those who want to work in this specialised field to have a thorough awareness of both the requirements of your function and the entire peri-operative procedure from the perspective of the patient.
